What is the RT-PCR Test?
Real time RT-PCR tests are considered the Gold Standard in testing. The real time RT–PCR technique is highly sensitive, specific and can deliver a reliable diagnosis in as little as three hours. Compared to other available virus isolation methods, real time RT–PCR is significantly faster and has a lower potential for contamination or errors, as the entire process can be carried out within a closed tube. It continues to be the most accurate method available for the detection of the COVID-19 virus.
The Lyra Direct SARS-CoV-2 Assay is a real-time RT-PCR assay intended for the in vitro qualitative detection of human coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 from viral RNA extracted from nasal, nasopharyngeal (NP) or oropharyngeal (OP) swab specimens from patients. The Assay targets the non-structural Polyprotein (pp1ab) of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
What is an Antibody Test?
Antibody tests check your blood by looking for antibodies, which may tell you if you had a past infection with the virus that causes COVID-19. Antibodies are proteins that help fight off infections and can provide protection against getting that disease again (immunity). Antibodies are disease specific. For example, measles antibodies will protect you from getting measles if you are exposed to it again, but they won’t protect you from getting mumps if you are exposed to mumps.
Antibody tests should not be used to diagnose a current COVID-19 infection, except in instances in which viral testing is delayed. An antibody test may not show if you have a current COVID-19 infection because it can take 1–3 weeks after infection for your body to make antibodies.

Schedule a testing
Please be advised, you may be also eligible to receive COVID related testing through various sources at no cost to you. Your insurance may waive your out-of-pocket cost for diagnostic testing related to COVID-19 when testing is medically necessary and performed by an approved testing facility. You may be eligible for out-of-network reimbursement through your healthcare insurance provider. The COVID-19 Total Antibody Assay (Including IgG IgM) test does not directly detect the virus and should not be used to diagnose or exclude COVID-19 infection. This test has been authorized by FDA for “emergency use” by authorized laboratories. This test has been authorized only to detect the presence of antibodies against SARSCoV-2, not for any other viruses or pathogens. All antibody tests currently in use may provide either false positive or false negative results. Even when the results are accurate, an antibody test may not be able to show if you have a current infection, because it can take 1-3 weeks after infection to make antibodies. It is not yet known if the presence of antibodies means that you are immune from further infection or if you are unable to transmit the coronavirus to others. Consequently, you should continue to follow CDC guidelines to minimize the risk of infection to others or reinfection of yourself – frequent handwashing, wearing a face mask in public and social distancing. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 you should talk to your healthcare provider who may recommend direct testing for the virus rather than an antibody test. If you have serious symptoms, such as difficulty breathing or a high fever, you should go to the nearest emergency room or call 911.
